The Purpose Driven Life - Day 7

Day 7 - The Reason For Everything

In this chapter Pastor Rick teaches us to give Glory to God in all thing, in all ways, in everything we do.

He says that when anything in creation fulfills it's purpose it brings glory to God. And that bringing glory to God can be summarized in His five purposes for your life:

1) We bring God glory by worshiping Him.

This is not only done in singing hymns once a week in church, but by all that we do, through love, giving thanks, and in delight - and should never be done out of duty - but of pureness of heart and our love of God.

2) We bring Glory to God by loving other believers.

Jesus said: "Ass I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

When you are born again - you become a member of God's family - and God wants you to love your spiritual family as He loves you.

Pastor Rick says that it is at times difficult to love every member of your family - some people are as he calls it "spiritual sandpaper" - but it is with these people that we must dig deeper and learn the truest meaning of what it is to love.  Pastor Rick has a name for this - he calls it 'EGR' (Extra Grace Needed) LOL !!

3) We bring Glory to God by becoming Christ like.

This is not to say that you are going to become God - but to become God-like. In all that you do and with everyone whom you interact with.  By applying the fruits of the spirit to your daily lives.

4) We bring Glory to God by serving others with our gifts.

God made you uniquely you.  You have talents and abilities, which were designed by God.  The way you were 'wired' is not an accident - just as you are not an accident.  God wants us to use our gifts to serve others, whether you are a carpenter or a chef or a writer, speaker, whatever your special talents are, were given to you to serve others.  Just as their special gifts were given to serve you.

5) We bring Glory to God by telling others about Him.

We know this - right? Have you ever called up a girlfriend to tell her about a sale on shoes? Or a special at the grocery story? Or have you ever told your boys' about a special at the golf course next weekend?  We share information to help others.  When we discover something - learn something - we know that it is right to share our new-found knowledge. In fact it makes us feel good to do so.  Sharing the truth of God is no different.  Why would you want to keep that information to yourself? That is part of the reason I am doing these daily writings of my journey.  To share God's word!  My hope is that if just one of you reading this will pick up the book and embark upon your own journey - then my ministry has been successful.  That is not to say it is over - just that it is successful.  And in my studies, in my spiritual maturity, I give glory to God by sharing my journey with you.

"For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory."  - Romans 11:36 (LB)
