The Purpose Driven Life - Day 16

Day 16 - What Matters Most

The greatest thing we can give one another is what God has given to us - Love.

Often times we get caught up in life - bills, work, schedules, housework, studies, and we become so preoccupied by the things that really do not matter in the long run - and in the process we end up putting off the one thing we must do.

To love others is the greatest gift we can give.  And God expects this of us - as God is love and we are of God - therefore we are love.  And we must remember this - at all times!  Even with some of the more difficult people we encounter in life.

We all know that tomorrows are not promised, yet we will often say to our friends and family - "I will __________ later."  There is no later. The bible tells us to love our neighbors and when we see that we can extend love through service or time - then we need to do exactly that.

The time is now.

To love one another - selflessly - particularly those who are in God's family, is vital to our purpose here on this earth. But also to ourselves.  When we are in our final moments, we will not ask to see budgets or certificate accomplishments, we want to be with those whom we love - and those who love us.  And when we leave this place, God will not ask how much money we have in the bank, what kind of car we drove, or how far we went in school.  He is most interested in how we treated one another.  How we spent our time.

Did we spend our time with a priority of sharing love with those in need? Did we love other members of God's family?  Did we spend time with our loved ones here on earth? Time is a sacrifice - time is something we can never give back ... so to give someone our time and attention is a precious gift.

"The entire law is summed up in a single command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" - Galatians 5:14 (NIV)
